I’m Sue Bird
Accredited Psychotherapist
Hello, I'm Sue Bird, an accredited psychotherapist based in Buckingham, offering therapy both in person and online.
Since establishing my private practice in 2017, I have supported adults experiencing anxiety, emotional overwhelm, grief, relationship difficulties, and the lasting impact of relational trauma, childhood emotional neglect and other significant life experiences.
I believe many of the ways we cope are understandable responses to experiences that once required us to adapt, protect ourselves or survive. Together, we can explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion, helping you develop a deeper understanding of yourself rather than seeing your struggles as personal failings.
How I work?
The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work. I aim to provide a consistent, compassionate space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace and reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have become hidden beneath years of coping.
Alongside talking therapy, I integrate psychoeducation, relational psychotherapy and body-informed approaches, helping you understand how your experiences, relationships and nervous system may have shaped the way you see yourself and respond to the world around you.
My approach
I believe therapy offers more than symptom management alone. While easing distress is important, I am equally interested in helping you understand the protective patterns beneath anxiety, self-criticism, emotional overwhelm and relationship difficulties.
I hope that, through greater self-awareness, compassionate exploration and practical understanding, therapy becomes a place where lasting change is possible—helping you move beyond survival and towards a stronger sense of connection with yourself and others.
Qualifications and Experience
I hold a range of professional qualifications and take a dedicated, ongoing approach to my own learning and supervision. My training includes:
BACP Accredited Member
CPCAB Level 6 in Clinical Supervision
CPCAB Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
Certificate in Adoption Support Counselling
How I work?
I offer sessions in two ways: in a private, air-conditioned room in my home in Buckingham, where confidentiality and comfort come first, or online via secure Zoom — for anyone who prefers the flexibility of meeting from home. Both options offer the same care and confidentiality; it's simply about what feels right for you.
Request a Confidential Consultation
Choosing a therapist is a personal decision, and finding the right 'fit' is the most important part of the process. I offer a free initial 30-minute consultation so we can meet, talk through what has brought you here, and see if working together feels like the right step for you.
